Social Media Philosophy

Working with social media is a dance between the person posting and the audience. A successful social media relationship takes flexibility, consistency, creativity and most importantly listening!

Many variables were tested to find the right day of the week, time of day, type of participation required for example, of having a successful interaction with the audience.

One of the biggest changes I made while at the Mall was a fundamental change in how social media giveaways were done. Previously the giveaways were very scripted, football oriented and very repetitive of previous years. Other giveaways were random but required liking the page or tagging a friend.

Our audience wasn’t willing/interested in those giveaways and these posts struggled to get even 20 comments. Only through trial and error did I also learn that our audience wouldn’t post pictures/selfies or participate in giveaways with a short deadline on a Friday or over a weekend.

I believe connecting with your customers/audience requires putting a face, or many faces, on the company. By humanizing the company it allows customers to connect and creates loyalty.

I have had great success improving employee morale and increasing customer engagement and support for the businesses I have worked for.
